The first time I encountered The Fierce & The Dead was at a festival in London back in 2014. The guys brought an unbelievable energy to the stage. Their music was completely instrumental—no vocals at all—but that didn’t matter; the songs told a story anyway.

Things evolve, though. On their previous album, News From The Invisible World, bassist and producer Kevin Feazey started singing, and I loved it right away. It brought an extra dimension to the band's signature sound.

Now, the band is back with their new album, Regional Theatre—and it is superb.

Kevin continues his vocal duties, and as the band puts it: "Lyrically, the album is mostly about communication, and how in a world where we have more access than ever, we still struggle." All music and lyrics were written collaboratively by the entire band.

Alongside Kevin Feazey (bass/vocals), TFATD consists of Matt Stevens (guitar), Steve Cleaton (guitar), Stuart Marshall (drums), and newcomer Tom Hunt (keys/vocals/percussion). The keyboards are a phenomenal addition to their sound.

In their press release, the band references a wide range of musical influences. That may be so, but let me make one thing clear: The Fierce & The Dead are simply unique.

Regional Theatre contains 10 tracks—with the longest clocking in at just under five minutes—and they all sound amazing. From heavy walls of sound to subtle, quiet moments, encompassing prog, pop, metal, and rock—everything has its place. The dynamics across the record are fantastic.

Feazey’s production work is brilliant, with a special shoutout to the drum sound! His vocals sound great, and the addition of Tom Hunt takes the harmonies to an even higher level. While the guitars of Matt Stevens and Steve Cleaton have always been the band's strongest asset (have you ever heard Matt Stevens' solo work? He’s a giant!), I’ve also become a huge fan of drummer Stuart Marshall.

I absolutely love this album. It is, without a doubt, The Fierce & The Dead’s best work to date. They deserve a massive audience—this band is one-of-a-kind, and so is this brilliant record!
