SEIKILO - Odyssey

In June Tracy and I were in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki. One of my favorite cities. In the same street of our hotel (The Maroon Bottle - highly recommended) we found SEIKILO, Museum of Ancient Music. Of course we couldn’t resit and had to visit this small but beautiful museum. The collection of the museum consist of beautifully build copies of the Greek Lyre. From small till quite big ones based on the original lyres from before 500 BC. We got a tour and demonstrations of the instruments by the fantastic Lina Palera. She is a master on the lyre. Besides that, she has a wonderful voice. In the museum shop I bought the album SEIKILO Odyssey. Ten songs played on copies of historic instruments. Not only the lyre, but also the bendir, the kithara and the pandura. I must say that the music is absolutely beautiful. A lot of musicians, including Lina Palera, worked on this album. Wonderful vocals and great musicianship And to end the album Bastian Kieslinger plays System of a Down’s ‘Toxicity’ on lyre. Brilliant Visit the museum when you can!
