Pat Wyrembsky - Orwellia Opéra

Patrick Wyrembsky – Orwellia Opéra
Patjaprog
Out of nowhere comes a striking prog-rock opera: Orwellia Opéra, written, performed, and produced by multi-instrumentalist Patrick Wyrembsky, who handles guitars, bass, vocals, and programming. Across ten stellar tracks, he delivers a captivating album packed with great riffs, atmospheric passages, and soaring lyrical guitar work. Lyrically and conceptually, the libretto draws from the works of George Orwell, humanity's dependence on fossil fuels, and memories of Hiroshima.
That is certainly a lot of heavy thematic ground to cover! Wyrembsky sings entirely in French, and while my French isn't fluent, the vocal delivery feels convincing and well-crafted. The lyrics were written by Frederik Wyrembsky—perhaps his brother—who did a fantastic job. The vocals are excellent throughout, occasionally evoking classic French prog bands like Ange.
The music is intense, highly melodic, and exceptionally easy to immerse yourself in. It’s the kind of album you just sit back and thoroughly enjoy. The artwork is equally stunning.
While Patrick Wyremsbky was previously unknown to me, he is clearly a top-tier musician and composer. Running at a concise 36 minutes and 21 seconds across ten strong tracks, Orwellian Opéra is a remarkably tight, high-quality release. If you enjoy rock operas, I highly recommend checking this out.
