HFMC – One Night Only – Live

Freia Music

In 2008, Hasse Fröberg (The Flower Kings) had a collection of songs that didn't quite fit his main band. This led him to form his own group: Hasse Fröberg & The Musical Companion. Taking the band on the road, they delivered a special performance in their hometown of Uppsala, Sweden, on November 2nd, 2024. During this show, the group played their latest album, Eternal Snapshots, in its entirety, followed by a second set featuring highlights from the rest of their catalog. The performance was recorded and is now released as a fantastic live album.

It is a bittersweet release, as HFMC is calling it quits—which is a true shame, because One Night Only proves what an exceptional band they are and were. The album showcases top-class musicianship across the entire lineup:

  • Hasse Fröberg – Lead vocals, guitar
  • Ola Strandberg – Drums, backing & lead vocals
  • Sampo Axelsson – Bass, Taurus pedals
  • Anton Lindsjö – Guitar, backing vocals
  • Kjell Haraldsson – Keyboards, backing vocals

Both Fröberg and drummer Strandberg are fantastic lead singers. While I am a fan of The Flower Kings, I must admit that I absolutely love the raw power HFMC brings to the stage—they are simply so much better live than the TFK gigs I’ve seen.

The setlist on One Night Only is superb. A standout track, the epic "Parallel Life," takes the listener on a breathtaking 17-minute journey. The vocal harmonies throughout are outstanding—complex, melodic, technically brilliant, and deeply emotional. Live albums can often be hit-or-miss, but this one certainly hits the mark. One Night Only is a brilliant legacy for a formidable band.

Thanks, guys!
