The Canadian ‘Enigmatic Sound Machines’ is the brainchild of Jeremie Arrobas and Thomas Szirmay. Jeremie is a founding member of Men Without Hats, a pioneer of electronic music, a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, writer, composer, arranger, and producer. Thomas Szirmay is a prog musicologist, researcher, producer, actor, vocalist and writer. Divided by One is their 4th album and it’s a beauty! They didn’t make this album alone, Alain Bellaiche - guitars, backing vocals and Hansford Rowe - (fantastic) bass guitars, backing vocals are the other members of the band. The album contains 8 of their own songs and a beautiful version of ‘Are Friends Electric?’ by Gary Numan. There is no physical drummer on the album, but the programmed drums are very tasteful.
This is a very relaxt album. Just sit down and enjoy it. Straight from the start with the bass driven title song ‘Divided by One’ you get into it. The album never lets you go! Jeremies voice is quite high and particular, but I like it. All compositions are strong with layers of sound and beautiful orchestrations. On ‘Inviolate Fields’ Laura Piazzai (Imaginaerium) delivers an amazing vocal contribution. And with ‘are Friends Electric?’ The album ends in a great way.
