The American band Edensong returns in 2025 with a new album, Our Road to Dust, their first since 2016.

Edensong is a remarkable band, called a great example of modern progressive rock by Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.

And that is not only due to the amazing flute playing of Barry Serof; drummer Nick diGregorio, bassist/vocalist TD Towers, and lead singer/guitarist James Byron Schoen are also absolute masters of what they do.

While Our Road to Dust begins very serenely with the folky ‘of Ascents’, it then explodes with ‘The Illusion of Permanence’. The harmonies of Schoen and Powers are amazing. All the songs are well put together and the dynamics are great. The songs contain quite a few folk influences, although they are played so robustly that they can hardly be called folk songs. The gentlemen manage to write quite complex songs, yet they remain recognizable. Acoustic and electric guitar alternate well. What stands out is the sheer joy of playing that radiates from the album. 'Or Ascents' returns, but with flute instead of guitar. I like that a bit less.

The album concludes with the title track, 'Our Roadarnefof to Dust'. That features significant Jethro Tull influences; nice, but unnecessary. All in all, Edensong has delivered a very fine album. Class musicians and great songs. Highly recommended!
