Credo - We The Disconnected

CREDO - We The Disconnected
Gargoyle Records (GRGCD26), distributed by F2 Records
After 15 years, the English band Credo is back with a brand-new album: We the Disconnected. And what an album it is! If you are a fan of neo-prog, this is an absolute must-have.
The band, fronted by singer Mark Colton, went all out to create something truly unprecedented for them. It is powerful, melodic, and features great lyrics by Colton. The album was written collectively by the band and recorded under the direction of Mike Varty on keyboards and backing vocals.Varty also mixed and mastered the album. Great job Mike!
Otherwise, the line-up has remained pretty much the same in the 15 years since their last release. Tim Birrell still delivers outstanding guitar parts, supported by a solid rhythm section with Jim Murdoch on bass and backing vocals, and Gerald ‘Mully’ Mulligan on drums. Mark Colton’s vocals sound beautiful and powerful—reminiscent at times of Fish. This is especially evident in the track "Round and Round", which deals with drug culture and its personal impact on life.
The album is packed with beautiful songs, including a fine instrumental track titled "Bonkeraria". However, brevity isn't in their vocabulary: "Bonkeraria" is the shortest track at 6 minutes, while epic tracks like "Flowers by the Roadside" (15 minutes), "Round and Round" (12 minutes), and "Left or Right" (10 minutes) take their time to breathe. All in all, it is a double album featuring eight great songs across two discs, totaling over 80 minutes of music.
With gorgeous melodies, captivating hooks, and magnificent vocals, the music smoothly transitions from heavy and solid to subtle and delicate. The band is truly at the top of their game—this is neo-prog as it was meant to be made. It took them 15 years, but the result was certainly worth the wait.
I must not forget to mention the beautiful artwork. A Gem!
My highest compliments to the band. An absolute recommendation and a magnificent album!
