Blank Manuskript - IIII-The Progression
Self Released
One of my absolute favorite bands is the Austrian group Blank Manuskript. I’ve followed them for years and loved their previous albums. Now, after a few lineup changes, they’re back with a new EP that serves as a stepping stone toward an upcoming full-length album. It features three tracks: one brand-new song and two newly arranged classics—reworked out of necessity, as the band has transitioned from a five-piece to a quartet.
Remaining in the band are Peter Baxraier—a fabulous guitarist and vocalist; keyboard wizard Dominik Wallner—always surrounded by synths, organs and piano’s and possessing great vocals; and Alfons Wohlmut on bass, flute, and vocals. Rounding out the lineup is drummer Simon Strasshofer who also sings—meaning every single member contributes to the vocals.
The EP opens with "Canopy," a brilliant track that leans into a slightly different style than usual while remaining incredibly engaging. Then come "Beast in the Cave" and "The Last Journey." The latter showcases the band’s breathtaking harmony singing—it's absolutely stunning.
Clocking in at just under 16 minutes, it’s a brief listen, but every second is exceptional. I can’t wait for the new album; I’m certain it will be a masterpiece. These guys deserve all the attention they can get, and they remain one of my absolute favorites.
